How to 6-Link an Item: The Fusing Guide

A 6-link is the gateway to most endgame builds, and getting one with Orbs of Fusing is one of the most notorious grinds in Path of Exile. There's no clever trick that guarantees it — but there is a smart way to approach it, and there's no reason to click the orb yourself hundreds of times.

The odds, honestly

Fusing a 6-link is pure RNG on each click. On average it takes ~1,500 Orbs of Fusing to hit a 6-link, but the distribution is brutal: plenty of people hit it in 200, plenty burn 3,000+. The two sane paths are:

• Bulk-fuse a cheap 6-socket base and accept the variance, or
• Buy the 6-link outright if your base is expensive or corrupted-adjacent.

For a 5-link, the odds are dramatically better — a few dozen fuses on average — which is why early-league builds often stop at 5L and move on.

Before you fuse

1. Make sure the item has 6 sockets first (Jeweller's Orbs). You can't 6-link a 5-socket base.
2. Higher item level and the strength/dex/int requirements affect socket colours, not link odds — but get your colours after the links, or use the links you get.
3. Decide your budget and stick to it. Set a hard cap so a bad streak doesn't eat your whole stash.

Automating the grind with Exiled Bench

The Fusing loop is the definition of a task worth automating: hold the orb, click the item, read the result, repeat. Exiled Bench's link mode does exactly this:

2. Set the target link count (5 or 6) and a safety limit on fuses so it stops at your budget.

Tips

• 5-link first. If your build works at 5L, get rolling now and chase 6L later or buy it.
• Cap your spend. The safety limit is your friend — walk away with currency left.
• Watch the base. Don't pour 1,500 fuses into a base you could buy 6-linked for less.
