Recombinator Bases: Alt-Rolling Physical Axes and ES Gear

Physical axes and Energy Shield gear start with many magic donor bases. What to roll, how to organise the hits, and where Exiled Bench helps before manual recombination.

Donor preparation; no certified full triple-T1 3.29 recipe

Recombinator crafts often begin with a pile of magic donor bases, each carrying one valuable modifier. That repeated Alteration rolling is where Exiled Bench can help. Choosing inputs and recombining remain separate decisions. Regal and Exalt stages can also be automated when the chosen recipe needs them; keep the donor-preparation run magic-only.

The examples below come from community crafting reports. Their shared preparation step is useful; their historical prices, success rates and advanced tricks are not a guaranteed recipe for this league.

Physical axes: three different prefixes

In this completed Vaal Axe craft, the crafter first rolled separate axes with Flaring (flat physical damage), Merciless (increased physical damage) or Dictator's (hybrid physical damage and accuracy). They recombined donors toward three physical prefixes before working on suffixes.

PhazePlays' axe guide and discussion describe the same donor-preparation approach, while also discussing cheaper two-prefix stopping points. Decide whether your build needs the third natural prefix before paying for more attempts.

For this natural physical-prefix craft, ilvl 83 is the useful baseline: it unlocks Merciless and Dictator's, while Flaring and the top natural attack-speed suffix are already available. The modifier data confirms those thresholds. There is no need to default to 86 just for these four targets.

Choose the axe base for the build, not just the rolled prefix. A Despot Axe offers a fast base; the linked completed craft uses a Vaal Axe. Compare the finished weapon in your build. With recombination, either input can supply the output base, so using matching suitable bases is the straightforward way to avoid an unwanted result. These are not disposable Awakener donors whose base is always destroyed.

Use current axe modifier data to check the exact tier. These are different modifier families, not three copies of increased physical damage. A magic axe holds only one prefix, which is why the donors are rolled separately.

Energy Shield armour: the same preparation pattern

This ES gear discussion describes rolling bases for flat ES, increased ES and a hybrid ES prefix, then combining intermediate hits. The Trickster body-armour walkthrough is another example of preparing individual affixes before recombination, though it describes 3.25 mechanics.

For a retained body armour, start with ilvl 86 to keep the top natural percentage-defence tier available. Twilight Regalia is a pure-ES option; Necrotic Armour suits evasion/ES builds. Smaller armour slots have different tier thresholds: do not copy the body-armour requirement to every glove or helmet. See base and item-level selection.

Pick a specific armour slot and defence base first. Pure ES and evasion/ES items do not have identical pools. Check that the prefixes you selected are compatible and can appear on the intended output base. Do not copy an old multimod or exclusive-mod trick without checking the newer rules.

Set up the donor rolling in Exiled Bench

  1. Put suitable magic bases in a calibrated stash tab. Check item level, base type and influence first.
  2. On Items, choose Magic, On my cursor, Alt + Aug and Stash. Do not select From my stash for this magic-only donor run.
  3. In Target mods → Mod DB, select the correct item type and base, then your donor modifier at the lowest tier you will accept. Better tiers count too.
  4. Roll a separate batch for each needed family, or use Any one for several acceptable donor prefixes. Do not use All of them for three prefixes on one magic item: that target cannot fit.
  5. Set a Safety limit, review This craft, then Arm and start. Sort the hits into donor groups before recombining.

An acceptable prefix does not automatically mean an isolated one-mod item: the magic donor may also carry a suffix. Inspect it and follow the chosen recipe's cleanup requirements. Exiled Bench does not choose inputs or perform recombination. It has optional automatic Annuls, but they remove random mods and are not a verified isolation method for these donors; leave them at 0 for this setup.

Regal and Exalt are separate recipe stages

Some donor recipes need a rare intermediate; others need isolated magic inputs. Do not Regal every donor simply because the app can. When your chosen recipe calls for it, a separate From my stash → Add Exalts setup can Regal an approved magic item and add a capped number of Exalts. Inspect the new mods before recombining.

After recombination, plan the finishing method from the actual rare output. An ordinary Exalt can add a random mod to an open slot, but an Alt restart recipe can Scour the prefixes you just built. The multi-currency guide explains goals and limits; this preparation guide does not certify an automatic triple-T1 finish.

After a recombination

Inspect the actual output, keep useful intermediate combinations and decide whether to continue or finish. Once an item is rare, Alterations no longer apply; Scouring it would erase unprotected progress.

Recombination is random and can lose wanted mods. Budget for donors and the recombinator's costs, not just Alterations. The 3.26 analysis documents changes after the popular 3.25 guide, so older probability tables need a version check. This guide covers donor preparation, not a promise of a particular combination or cost.

Continue from these donors with the physical axe recipe or the Necrotic Armour recipe. Each explains two-prefix intermediates, failed-result inspection and a usable finishing stage.

Loadouts for this guide

Importable app settings for the stages below. Read the checkpoint before rolling.

Draft · awaiting in-game review

Physical axe · donor preparation

Base to check
Matching ordinary two-handed axe bases, item level 83+. The app's item category is Weapon; check the actual axe yourself.
Stops on
Any one T1 family: flat physical, percentage physical, or physical/accuracy hybrid. Keep donors magic.
Next manual checkpoint
Sort into separate donor piles and inspect every prefix before manual recombination. The hybrid requires both of its stat lines.

Draft · awaiting in-game review

Necrotic Armour · donor preparation

Base to check
Matching ordinary Necrotic Armours, item level 86+. The loadout selects the Dex/Int body-armour pool.
Stops on
Any one T1 family: flat evasion/ES, percentage evasion/ES, or evasion/ES with recovery. Keep donors magic.
Next manual checkpoint
Sort donor families and recombine manually. Check all prefixes and Eater dominance before the guide's suffix finish.
