Crafting Influenced Items: Shaper, Elder & Conqueror Mods
Influenced bases unlock some of the strongest mods in the game — but they're a different beast to craft. Here's how influence mods work and how to target them.
Some of the best modifiers in Path of Exile only exist on influenced bases — Shaper, Elder, and the Conqueror influences (Crusader, Redeemer, Hunter, Warlord). If you've ever wanted a chest that makes enemies explode or boots with Tailwind, you're crafting on influenced gear. Here's how it works.
What "influence" means
An influenced item carries a marker (e.g. "Shaper Item") that unlocks an extra pool of mods specific to that influence, on top of the normal mods for the base. Each influence has its own signature mods:
- Crusader — e.g. explode chest, +1 socketed gems variants.
- Redeemer — e.g. Tailwind, cold-focused mods.
- Hunter — e.g. chaos/DoT and utility mods.
- Warlord — e.g. life/leech and armour-break style mods.
- Shaper / Elder — the original influence pools (caster, minion, elemental, etc.).
Because the influence pool is added to the base pool, hitting a specific influence mod means fishing a bigger pool — which is exactly why targeting matters.
The workflow
- Get an influenced base at the right item level (top-tier influence mods gate on ilvl).
- Alteration-fish for the influence mod you want at the magic stage (the influence pool is available at magic too), or use an essence/fossil that plays nicely with it.
- Regal, then finish with Exalts, bench crafts, or Harvest.
For mods like Tailwind or the explode chest, the hard part is landing the influence mod — everything after is standard rare finishing.
Targeting influence mods with Exiled Bench
This is where the mod database earns its keep. In the Mod DB you filter Slot → Base → Influence and pick the exact influence mod and tier. The engine then builds a tier-exact pattern and rolls until that precise mod appears — so a lower-tier or wrong-influence mod won't stop it early.
Tips
- Set the influence filter. Item rolling defaults to the general pool; switch it to the specific influence so the list only shows what you're actually chasing.
- Mind item level. The strongest influence mods need high-ilvl bases — a low base caps your tier.
- Double-influence is a different craft. Merging two influences (via the Maven) unlocks even rarer mods; start with single-influence until you're comfortable.
Influenced crafting is where builds go from good to great. The mods are rarer, so precise targeting — and not clicking a thousand alterations by hand — is what makes it feasible. Get started.
