Rolling +1 Gem Levels on Wands and Sceptres

+1 to Level of all Skill Gems (and its spell/element variants) is a caster staple. Here's how to target it on a wand or sceptre and automate the roll.

For caster builds, few mods matter as much as +1 to Level of all Skill Gems and its cousins — +1 to Level of all Spell Skill Gems, and the element-specific "+1 to Level of all [Fire/Cold/Lightning/Chaos] Spell Skill Gems." A single gem level is a large, multiplicative power spike, and stacking several sources is how caster weapons hit their damage ceilings.

These are the exact presets Exiled Bench ships with (see +1 to Level of all Skill Gems and +1 to Level of all Spell Skill Gems in the mod list), so targeting them is a couple of clicks.

Where these mods live

  • +1 to all Skill Gems is a strong, rarer prefix — big and expensive to hit.
  • +1 to all Spell Skill Gems is more common and often the practical target.
  • Element-specific +1 spell gems are what you stack on a dedicated element caster weapon, frequently via essences or fossils rather than pure alteration fishing.

The approach

For a magic-stage fish (alteration spam):

  1. Start with a magic wand/sceptre of the right item level (the higher tiers need a minimum ilvl).
  2. Alteration until your +1 gem mod appears.
  3. Augment if it rolled alone, then Regal and finish (bench craft added spell damage / cast speed, or more gem levels via essence/harvest).

For element-specific gem levels, essence spamming (guaranteed element +1) or fossils are usually the more reliable route than raw alteration fishing.

Automating with Exiled Bench

  1. Calibrate the item slot.
  2. Open the Mod DB, filter to Wand / Sceptre, and pick the exact +1 variant you want — the app builds a tier-exact pattern so a mismatched gem mod won't stop the roll.
  3. Choose your method (Alteration for the generic, or the Essence method for element-specific) and start.

Tips

  • Know which +1 you actually want. "All skill gems" is stronger but far rarer than "all spell skill gems"; don't grind for the big one if the common one carries your build.
  • Essences for element +1. If your build is mono-element, a matching essence guarantees the +1 and lets you fish only for the supporting mods — see the essence spamming guide.
  • Mind the item level. Top tiers gate on ilvl; rolling a low-ilvl base caps the tier you can hit.

+1 gem crafts are high-value and high-variance — precisely the case for setting a tier-exact target and letting the app grind while you do something else.
